Established August 29, 2006 at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, Texas.

AGE ELIGIBILITY: 7 TO 17

ENROLLMENT: A student may enroll on a month to month basis or receive a $10 discount for each month you pre-pay. You have the flexibility to choose the months you wish your junior golfer to participate.

There may be a limit (based on the student / teacher ratio) on the number of players that are affiliated with a team.

At Sherrill Park Golf Course there will be three (3) Teams formed under the The Sherrill Park Junior Academy. When you enroll in the AGJA you are on The Sherrill Park Junior Golf Team. The three (3) Teams will be called RED, WHITE AND BLUE. Within each Team there will be 3 Skill Levels. For example : A Junior Academy student could be on the Red #1, #2 or #3 Team. Each level will have its own curriculum. Each enrolled student will start on the Red Team. If God given ability is evidenced, a M.A.D. Team member may ask the student or parent if they would like to Test (to another Team Level) prior to the minimum 7 classes attended. Otherwise, a student will attend a minimum of 7 classes prior to the student of parent telling a M.A.D. Team member that they are ready to Test to the next Team Level.

The SPJGT will practice / play on Tues. and Thurs. Practice days will be 430 – 6 pm . Play days will be 6 – 8 pm (Aug.) . practice and play times will be adjusted as the days get shorter or longer.

Student’s on the SPJGT will be encouraged to have their school homework done before Team Play Days.

The Red Team will have a “Developmental” Team atmosphere, in other words, with FUNdamentals, safety, etiquette and an intro to putting, chipping, pitching, the bunker and the golf swing will be focus areas. Playing privileges on the golf course will be a goal of every Red Team member. Note: A curriculum goal for each Red Team Member is to Test Out to the White Team so they can earn playing privileges with the Team.

Red Team # 3 * Curriculum .. putting, chipping, Etiquette, Rules, Safety
Red Team # 2 * Curriculum .. putting, chipping, pitching, 1/2 swings, Etiquette, Rules, Safety
Red Team # 1 * Curriculum .. same as #2..additionally full swing and get Ready to Play, Parts of some classes may be on the golf course.

The White Team’s emphasis will integrate, Rules, Etiquette, more about Techniques in the short game and swing. Playing privileges will begin at this Team Level. White Team #3 will play 3-6 holes. White Team # 2 (on play days) will play 6 holes. Nine (9) hole playing privileges begin as you reach The White Team #1.

White Team # 3 * Curriculum .. Putting, Bunker, Full Swing, Play
White Team # 2 * Curriculum .. Putting, Chipping, Intermediate Pitching, Written Rules Quiz, Full Swing, Join the NTPGA.
White Team # 1 * Curriculum .. Putting, Chipping, Pitching, Trouble shots, Full Swing, video session possible, Written Rules Test (during Test Out), Rules, Etiquette, Join the NTPGA.

The Blue Team’s curriculum will have a “Select or Club” Team atmosphere. Specific and fun drills for skills will be part of every practice. Honesty, integrity, fairness, fun and focus will part of every play day. Short game may be practiced more than the full swing on the Blue Team. Having a working (ie. able to demonstrate proper Rulings for the most common Rules situations) knowledge of the Rules will be part of this Team’s Curriculum. These Team members will also have the opportunity to TEACH THE RED AND WHITE TEAM’S in different aspects of the game.

Blue Team # 3... Focus on practice techniques ie. HOW TO PRACTICE.,
Complete Full Swing and Short Game will be covered, along with Rules, Etiquette and Safety review. Written Rules Test during Test Out.
Blue Team # 2... Intro to playing the “6 inch game”. Playing will be a focus. Tournament golf…what is the difference between this and playing with your friends or family
Blue Team # 1...

Congratulations! When you have reached this Level you will have a Character Building mind-set towards ALL aspects of the game of golf. Understanding of your Process (ie. What you think about your golf swing, putting stroke, ability to play out of a bunker, your attitude towards playing, your goals and expectations etc.) will be more defined and should make sense to you. Through proper practice techniques, you will be prepared to play in competitions and (if you desire) to tryout for your High School Golf Team.

 * Curriculum listed are primary topics (may not be a complete list) Secondary topics may be introduced by the Coaches.Secondary topics may include on campus field trips (ie. maintenance barn to meet the guys who grow the grass), exercise class given by MAD Team or invited guest speaker / coach / instructor.

Planned Daily Curriculum.. … A goal (currently under construction by the M.A.D. Team) is to have a PLANNED DAILY CURRICULUM ie. the student will know which skills he/she is to practice on that day. The students may check the Daily Curriculum Board upon arrival.

Dress Code ... All Team members will be required to adhere to the dress code of the SPJGT. Golf attire is okay. NO SOCCER OR BASEBALL SHOES and NO FLIP-FLOPS PLEASE. Tennis shoes or golf shoes please. T-SHIRTS ARE OKAY PROVIDED THEY ARE TUCKED IN AND THERE ARE NO VULGAR STATEMENTS ON THE SHIRT. The MAD Team will count on mom or dad to help with the NO VULGAR OR INAPROPRIATE WORDS ON THE T-SHIRTS. Consequences for not following the dress code will range from a warning to loss of privileges.

All Teams … will have knowledge of the Rules of Golf , and will be tested; based on their Team Level. All Teams will respect and encourage other team members.

Walking and Carrying their Bag.. Students will be required to walk and carry (or use a pull cart) their golf bags. NOTE TO PARENTS: Ask a MAD Team Member about lightweight carry bag options.

Exercise ..All teams’ will be introduced to the benefits of exercise and nutrition. Mental exercises will be introduced at the Blue Team Level.

Character Building will be discussed and demonstrated at each TEAM Level during practice and play sessions, as well as, TEAM MEETINGS AT THE END of each practice. Integrity, honesty, trustworthiness, citizenship, caring (about yourself and others) are an example of some of the morality and ethical values that will be practiced and learned.

Northern Texas PGA (ntpga.com) Jr Golf Foundation
Each WHITE TEAM #2 AND ABOVE will be encouraged to join the NTPGA Junior Golf Foundation in order to be recognized and affiliated with a Sherrill Park Golf Course. The Northern Texas PGA will be coordinating Team tournament schedules throughout the year.

Green Fees Paid for Non-Scheduled Play-Days
When your junior golfer comes out to play, on days and times that are not scheduled SPJGT Play – Days, they will be required to pay there applicable (based on the time of day weekday or weekend) green fee. If you live in Richardson, juniors may purchase a discount green fee card.

Enrollment Fees are currently set in the following manner:
Team (Currently..ALL PARTCIPATION LEVELS)- $120/monthly or receive $10 off for each month you Pre-Pay (ie. 2 month enrollment save $20, 3 month $ 30 and so forth) and includes
- Three (3) to Four (4) hours of group instruction per week
- Access to Team Events on the NTPGA Instructional Tour
- Free range balls during Team Practice.
- Etiquette/rules instruction from the PGA professional
- Membership on an organized club team (SPJGT)
- Interclub competitions (to begin Spring / Summer 2007 ?)

Additional Fees (determined by the PGA instructor/team coach) for the following items
- NTPGA membership ($ 60/ annual currently)
- Tournament entry fees
- Team cap, bag or shirt
- Discounted private instruction from coach
- Additional benefits through the club

We (Sherrill Park and the NTPGA) have established some basic minimum guidelines that everyone must follow to have an NTPGA sanctioned Team on the Instructional Tour.

Responsibilities of the PGA Professional or PGA Apprentice
- The well-being of the child is the most important lesson plan each day
- Provide a safe learning environment that is free of hostility and ridicule (from instructors, parents and other team members)
- Maximum of 10:1 student to teacher ratio at every practice. SHERRILL PARK WILL WORK TOWARDS A LOWER RATIO.
- Responsible for 12 - 16 hours/month of instruction to the SPJGT
- NO RAINOUTS OR CANCELLATIONS. Class may be held indoors where instruction into a net may occur, games involving Rules, Etiquette, Character Building and Safety.
- Maintain an open line of communication with the parents/juniors on the practice and tournament schedule
- Send the NTPGA an updated monthly roster (weekly in the summers) to maintain an eligibility roster of players for the Instructional Tour events
- Provide the NTPGA a team roster three (3) days prior to each event, no more than six (6) players per team. No maximum on the number of teams a Club can bring.
- A yearly fee is paid to the NTPGA by The Sherrill Park Golf Academy - NOTE TO MOMS,DADS, AUNTS/UNCLES, GRANDPA’S/ GRANDMA’S AND OTHER FOLKS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN PROVIDING AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A BOY OR GIRL TO EXPERIENCE THE GREATEST GAME EVER PLAYED. FUNDRAISING MAY OCCUR DURING YOUR JUNIOR GOLFERS TENURE ON THE SPJGT. THE M.A.D. (MAKE A DIFFERENCE) TEAM AT SHERRILL PARK MAY SOLICIT YOUR HELP…
