New tees, greens and bunkers among the improvements that should make the course more playable.
(Richardson, TX) – Course 2 at the City of Richardson’s Sherrill Park Golf Course has reopened for play after being closed much of 2024 as it underwent a course-wide renovation. Course 2, which had not undergone a full renovation since 2001, should be more playable for golfers of all skill levels.
“We are excited to get feedback from players who play the golf course,” said Sherrill Park Head Golf Professional Ronny Glanton. “We made numerous capital improvements to the golf course including redoing all 18 greens, redoing all the tees and reshaping and redoing all the bunkers on all 18 holes.”
Weibring & Wolfard made numerous capital improvements to the golf course including redoing all 18 greens including the practice putting and chipping green. All the tees were renovated and reshaped along with all the bunkers on all 18 Holes.
Additional drainage improvements were made throughout the course. Freeze / Nichols designed all the improvements for the creeks including Spring Creek, Wood Creek and Madison Creek. The improvements are on holes #3,#6, and #14. The lake on hole #2 was removed and the addition of a waterfall was added for drainage and aesthetics.
Prior to the renovations, Avid Golfer Magazine listed Sherrill Park Course 2 as the Most Anticipated Renovation of 2024. At the same time, the magazine listed Sherrill Park Course 1 among the eight top “luxury” public courses in the Metroplex, and sixth overall among the 42 public courses in eastern DFW.
“Sherrill Park has been one of our top residential and corporate amenities for more than half a century and our investments in both courses should ensure the course remains a highly desirable place for golfers from Richardson and throughout the area,” said City Manager Don Magner. “Sherrill Park’s two courses routinely rank among the top public courses in DFW, and we look forward to golfers coming out and playing the newly renovated Course 2.”
